APEC Architect Project 8th Central Council Meeting concluded in Zhengzhou China

The 8th Central Council Meeting was held from 18 to 20 September 2018 in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, China co- chaired by Mr. Cui Kai, Chair of the APEC Architect Project Monitoring Committee P. R. China, Academician of the China Academy of Engineering and Vice President of the Architectural Society of China (ASC) and Mr. Zhuang Weimin, Rotating Secretary General of the APEC Architect Project (2017-2018), ASC Vice President and Dean of the School of Architecture Tsinghua University .

The Central Council has ultimate responsibility for the operation of each aspect of the APEC Architect framework and meets at least every two years to review its procedures and criteria, consider applications for authorization of Monitoring Committees, receive reports from participating economies, and deal with matters arising. Participating economies host the meetings on a rotating basis.

The two- day meeting, attended by 50 senior representatives from 12 APEC Architect participating economies, deliberated on the future of APEC Architect Project where economies forwarded propositions to improve the mobility and value as APEC Architects. The meeting adopted a set of resolutions highlighting the importance of strengthening the APEC Architect Project to explore more benefits for the APEC architects; expanding the scope of the APEC Architect project and extending the role of Central Council meetings to facilitate discussion about regulating the practice of architecture in the participating economies.

As decided over the meeting, the Philippines will act as the next Secretariat and host the Ninth Central Council Meeting.
